We’re highlighting a teacher every Wednesday as a part of the #RedForEd campaign.

Every year is a great year to celebrate our teachers, but this year has shined a bright light on the flexibility and compassion of our incredible staff.

Today we’re highlighting Mrs. Chrissy Jarvis, an early learning teacher at Little Braves Early Learning Center.

What motivates you?
I find my motivation in the trust that parents place in me. I know they could have chosen other places for their children to begin their educational journey, but they chose Little Braves. I value that trust, and consider myself grateful to be a piece of their story. I believe this is the age where children begin to learn to love school and I want them to look forward to coming here and feeling safe and cared for.

How has your job changed due to COVID?
Due to social distancing, my responsibility grew from six classrooms to seven. Parents are not allowed in the facility. Pick up and drop off happens at the  facility door. One of the things I love about my job are the conversations I get to have with parents. This became a little more difficult this year. We have also remained open five days a week since school began in August, with no closures. I am very proud of my team of ladies that have made this possible.

What is something that people don’t understand about your job?
I think people don’t realize just how much goes on in this center. I have seven rooms with children ages six weeks through four years, My job is never the same from day to day. I’m not afraid to do the messy stuff either. I serve many roles and I’m happy to do anything that is needed to make the day successful.

Why do you love VCSC/your school?
I am a product of the VCSC. My husband and I chose to stay in Vigo County and raise our family here.  I believe in the power of early education. I think the focus that the school corporation has placed on early learning is positive and it makes me proud to be an employee of the VCSC.

Little Braves children have my heart. I love everything about my job!

Be sure to check back on #Staffurday–Saturday, that is–as we recognize members of our non-teaching staff. We’ll continue both campaigns through the end of the school year.
