Every Saturday, we highlight a non-teaching staff member on our Facebook and Twitter (@vcsc_teamvigo) account, turning Saturday into #Staffurday to introduce you to some of the people who make school happen!

Every year is a great year to celebrate our staff, but this year has shined a bright light on the flexibility and compassion of our incredible staff.

Today, meet Amy Woodard, an educational assistant at Hoosier Prairie Elementary School.

What motivates you?
The students at Hoosier Prairie Elementary School are what motivates me to be the best person I can be. I get motivated by helping them and watching them excel. I am motivated by using new creative ideas to help the students in their success.

How has your job changed due to COVID?
My job has changed in a few ways due to COVID-19. I work with fewer students. When we had the A/B schedule I had even fewer students. However, I take the time I do have with the students to be as productive as I can be with them.

What is something that people don’t understand about your job?
Something people do not understand about my job is that we “wear many hats”. Although I am not a licensed teacher, I still assist the students in the classroom in the same manner as the classroom teacher. EAs assist, give academic support, recess duty, cafeteria supervision, give emotional support, health office support, and positive guidance. We assist anywhere we are needed at any moment.

Why do you love VCSC/your school?
I love Hoosier Prairie Elementary for so many reasons. I am surrounded by so many kind and loving students. I love the energy and the enthusiasm these children show. I am blessed to have worked 7 years at this school loving each of the children as if they were my very own.

Be sure to check back on Wednesday as we highlight another teacher for #RedforEd Wednesday! We’ll continue both campaigns through the end of the school year.
