Starting today, we’re going to highlight a teacher every Wednesday as a part of the #RedForEd campaign.

Every year is a great year to celebrate our teachers, but this year has shined a bright light on the flexibility and compassion of our incredible staff.

We’re starting with Ms. #RedForEd herself, Mrs. Jodie Buckallew, who is a special education teacher at Lost Creek Elementary School.

What motivates you?
I feel most motivated when I’m with teachers and/or administrators that put students first…when a team or grade level come together.

How has your job changed due to COVID?
COVID has brought many changes to my classroom. Masking and social distancing were the first procedures I taught when we came back.

What is something that people don’t understand about your job?
My classroom is a group of 10 but that’s 10 different learning styles. While I maybe teaching the same subject to a small or whole group I need to teach it different ways to better support unique learning styles.

Why do you love VCSC/your school?
I love our teachers. I truly love and want to give a shout out to the Educational Assistants who love unconditionally and believe in our students. Without them I couldn’t teach and keep our students moving moving forward.

Be sure to check back on #Staffurday–Saturday, that is–as we recognize members of our non-teaching staff. We’ll continue both campaigns through the end of the school year.
