Mr. Nathan Simpson is the Honey Creek winner of the Excellence in Education Award. He earned his B.M.E. in Music Education and Master’s degree in School Administration from Indiana State University. He is an avid pianist and trumpet player and has been working with middle and high school bands throughout Indiana for the past several years. Mr. Simpson also is a VCSC Canvas Liaison in which he provides district training and support to instructional staff with the Canvas learning management system. In Mr. Simpson’s time at Honey Creek, the band program has increased enrollment to well over 30% and has taken bands to contest numerous times achieving various “GOLD” ratings. The jazz bands under Mr. Simpson has also achieved top three in the state at the Purdue University Jazz Festival with similar recognitions at various jazz events throughout the state. Under his direction the band has also been awarded the prestigious “ISSMA All-Music Award” for the band program three times. In addition, Mr. Simpson serves as the Event Coordinator for the Indiana Percussion Association, District III Board Member for the Indiana Bandmasters Association, Indiana State School Music Association adjudicator, and often serves as a tabulator for Drum Corps International, Inc.
