On Saturday, the Terre Haute South Jazz Band participated in the 35th Annual Purdue Jazz Festival. They received a Division 1 rating for their performance and Zander Tracy and Walter Gordon received outstanding soloists awards. After their performance they had a short clinic with the founder of the Purdue Jazz Festival, Dr. Lissa May.

Congratulations to the South Band on a great job at ISSMA Solo and Ensemble Contest at Honey Creek Middle School this past weekend.
The following students earned Gold Ratings in Group One and will now Advance to State Solo and Ensemble on March 1st:

Congratulations to the Science Bowl Team who competed in the regional competition. The team of four finished in the top eight in the state.  The Science Bowl Team consisted of: Jeffrey Chen, Vatsal Mannepalli, Vaishant Mannepalli, and William Drummond.

Congratulations to the THS Choir Department on an outstanding performance at the ISSMA State Competition!  Addison Carton won Silver at the State Level, and Kensington Heath, Jovi Hancock, Landen Aguilar, Anneke Donker, Ayma Rizwan, Tanner St. Juliana, Valyn Davis, Nash McCloy, Lila Tilford and Sophia House won Gold at the State Level!  Way to go singing Braves!
Congratulations to the THS Orchestra on an outstanding performance at the State Solo and Ensemble Contest!  Noah Price received a silver and Emeliyah Sands a gold on their violin solos.  John Mann, Noah Price, and Noah Shober received a gold on their violin trio.  And, 17 members of the Concert Orchestra participated in a large ensemble which also received a gold rating.  It was a very successful day for the TH South Orchestra!

Congratulations to the following future ISU Sycamores, who earned scholarships to ISU:    Presidential Scholarship- Sydni Weber,  Presidential Scholarship – Brady Wilson,  University Honors Scholarship- Aja Irish,  University Honors Scholarship- Vatsal Mannepalli, and University Honors Scholarship- Gabe Young.  The Presidential Scholarship covers room and board for all four years and is only awarded to 18 students nationwide. The University Honors Scholarship covers tuition for all four years and is only awarded to 30 students nationwide.  Great job learning Braves!

Congratulations to the five THS Latin Students recently received medals for their high scores on two of the national exams offered by the National Junior Classical League.  On the National Roman Civilization Exam, Philip Hawkins earned a gold medal while bronze medals went to Samuel Rasley and Rachel Roberts.  On the National Classical Etymology Exam, Isaac Goodman and Samuel Rasley earned silver medals, and Alaysia Keegan and Philip Hawkins earned bronze.

Congratulations to the Terre Haute South Jazz Band on receiving a Gold with Distinction award at the ISSMA Jazz Festival! This is the first time the jazz band has earned this rating at that level in school history. We also want to congratulate Zander Tracy, Clara Noxon, Diarmuid Corcoran, Carter Body, Colby Ellison, Rebekah Gormong, and Walter Gordon on receiving Outstanding Soloist awards!


Congratulations to the Concert Orchestra for receiving a gold rating from all 3 of the judges at ISSMA District Jazz.  The soloists were Avery King on cello and Noah Shober on violin and both did a fantastic job!
Congratulations to the Terre Haute South Indoor Percussion!  They were 1st Place out of 7 in Percussion Regional A  Class at Franklin Community High School!  Great job Indoor Percussionists!”

South’s Latin Club celebrated the Ides of March with some big wins at the Indiana Junior Classical League Convention!

Junior Alaysia Keegan was elected to serve as the 2025-2026 Indiana JCL Historian.  She will take office in August and spend next year creating Indiana JCL’s entry in the state scrapbook contest for the 2026 National Junior Classical League convention.  The THS JCL chapter placed in the following overall contests:  1st place in the Publicity Contest, 2nd place in Certamen for our Intermediate level team, 2nd place in Digital Scrapbooks, 2nd place in the Helen Wampler Spirit Award, which counts how active we are as a chapter over the entire year, 3rd place in the Effie Douglas Membership Award, 3rd place in the Overall Sweepstakes for the small chapters division, 8th place in Certamen for our Novice level team and 8th place in Delegate Spirit.  In addition, students received the following individual awards for the contests they competed in:  Philip Hawkins – 1st in Roman History, 1st in Pentathlon, 1st in Roman Life and Customs, 1st in Mythology, 1st in Latin Derivatives, 1st in Geography, 1st in Hellenic History, 1st in Small Models, 2nd in Slogans, 2nd in Classical Art, 2nd in Latin Literature, 3rd in Latin Vocabulary, 3rd in Sculpture, 4th in Impromptu Art, 5th in Reading Comprehension – Level 2, 5th in Latin Grammar, 5th in Mottoes, Quotes, & Abbreviations and by placing in the top 5 of so many academic contests, Philip also received an Individual Academic Achievement Award!  Alaysia Keegan – 6th in Reading Comprehension – Level 2, 9th in Roman Life and Customs and 10th in Mythology.  Isabella Newberry – 2nd in Oil/Acrylic Painting, 4th in Greek Derivatives, 5th in Reading Comprehension – Level 1, 6th in Impromptu Art, 7th in Latin Derivatives, 7th in Pottery, and 8th in Mottoes, Quotes, & Abbreviations.  Samuel Rasley – 3rd in Latin Derivatives, 3rd in Weapons and Armor, 5th in Latin Vocabulary, 6th in Greek Derivatives, 7th in Latin Grammar, 7th in Roman Life & Customs, 7th in Games, 7th in Hellenic History, 9th in Mythology and 10th in Pentathlon.  Christopher Spencer – 4th in Mythology, 4th in Geography, 5th in Greek Derivatives, 6th in Pentathlon, 6th in Drawn Maps, 8th in Latin Vocabulary, 8th in Illustrated Quotations, 9th in Hellenic History and 10th in Roman History.
Congratulations to the Terre Haute South Band Winter Programs on another exciting weekend of competition!  THS Indoor Percussion was 1st out of 5 in Regional A Class at the Indiana Percussion Association Center Grove Invitational.  THS Winter Guard gave an exceptional performance and went up 3 points at the Winter Guard International Mideast Power Regional at Avon HS, but did not advance to the Final Round on Sunday.  Awesome job everyone!
Good luck to the Indoor Percussion as they head to IPA Divisional Finals at Brownsburg High School and to the Winter Guard as they head to State Finals at Center Grove High School; both this coming Saturday!
Congratulations to the members of the Terre Haute South Envirothon Teams! Both teams did wonderfully during the regional competition at Ivy Tech on Friday with Team 1 (Clara Noxon, John Mann, Alvina Mastakar, Eve Reid, Anna Miles, & Maddison Smithson) receiving 1st place and Team 2  (Skylar Vinzant, Samya Ward, Isis Johnson, Sophie Lubic, Darcy Kirby, & Sam Rasely) receiving 5th! T eam 1 will compete at the state competition! Congrats to all!

Congratulations to the Terre Haute South Indoor Percussion finished their season SECOND Place in the State out of 14 groups in the Indiana Percussion Association’s Regional A class Divisional Finals!
Congratulations to the Terre Haute South Winter Guard placed 6th in their round and 10th overall out of 28 teams in the Indiana High School Color Guard Association Class A at State Finals!
Congratulations to the Band Directors, Mr. Murphy and Mr. Norris, who were recognized at the Indiana State House in Indianapolis on Monday for the South Band Program earning the Indiana State School Music Association’s “All-Music Award” for the last school year.

Congratulations Clara Noxon for being chosen by three local independent judges to represent Terre Haute as their candidate for the Indiana State Good Citizen Essay Contest.  She has now been selected to be one of only 15 State finalists!  If her essay and application makes it to the district level, she will be awarded a $1000.00 scholarship and will be considered for the national competition and additional scholarships.
