Bio: Mrs. McPike graduated in 1989 with honors in Music Education from Butler University. She received her Masters of Music Education from Indiana University in 2001. She is a board member of the Linda Luebke Strings Festival and a committee member of the Repertoire and Guest Artist Committee for the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra.

- Orchestra students also need a shoulder rest for upper strings and rock stops for lower strings, a wipe off cloth, metronome, mute, and rosin

- intonation (playing in tune)
- tone quality (sound/bowing)

- musicianship (style, dynamics, etc.)
- posture and position
- sight reading ability (a first read through of a piece of music)
- be attentive and make rehearsals productive every day by…
- being in your seat on time, with instrument, music, and necessary supplies (pencil, rosin, etc.) On time = 3 minutes after the start of class bell rings
- being ready to play together without unnecessary delays
- not studying other subjects during class
- not talking or playing instruments when the director is talking
- being quiet during tuning
- being aware of the importance of your part at any given moment in relation to others (balance)
- practicing your orchestra music outside of class time until it can be played without mistakes
- keeping your fingernails trimmed
- staying in your seat during the rehearsal and not putting instrument away until dismissed by the director
- have a positive attitude and…
- not bring gum, candy, food, or beverages into the rehearsal room
- turn in forms and fees when they are due
- clean up after yourself
- leave things that belong to others alone (including pianos and percussion)
- know the importance of private lessons and study privately, if possible
- participate in extra-curricular music organizations (solo-ensemble contest, youth orchestra, etc.)
- take part in special music activities (festivals, camps, All-State Orchestra, workshops, etc.)
- participate in orchestra fund-raising activities
- take part in orchestra social events
- not make negative statements or noises which will detract from the concentration of the group
