Meet Mrs. Olds
Hello! My name is Meghan Olds and I am the school counselor at Hoosier Prairie Elementary School. I have been at Hoosier Prairie since 2015. I love being a Pioneer and part of the Hoosier Prairie family! I am very excited about what the school year has in store and getting to know all of our Pioneers better! When I was in high school, I realized that I wanted to be a school counselor to help children, as mine did for me.
I received my Bachelor’s of Science Degree from the University of Evansville in Psychology with a specialization in Clinical Psychology. I worked in the social services and child welfare fields for 7 years prior to returning to graduate school to earn my Master’s Degree in Education in School Counseling at Indiana State University. I am also a Trauma and Crisis Specialist, certified through the American School Counselor Association. I recently graduated from Butler University with my certification in Mental Health Counseling to work towards becoming a Licensed Mental Health Counselor too.
On a personal level, my husband’s name is Chris and we have been married since 2008. We have a son, Austin, who is a professional racer and a 6 year old daughter, Addison, who loves dance and gymnastics. As a family, we love to spend time with family and friends, travel, watch Austin’s races, and Addison’s performances..
As a School Counselor, my primary responsibility is to promote the academic, personal, and social development of all students. I love offering support to our students, staff, families, and community. I meet with students individually and in small groups, conduct classroom guidance lessons, meet with parents, collaborate with teachers and staff, and consult with community organizations to benefit and meet the needs of all Hoosier Prairie students and families.
At Hoosier Prairie, we have been fortunate to have one of the first certified Therapy Dogs, Charlee Jo, and she comes with me to most of my lessons. She is certified through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs and has earned the titles of Therapy Dog Supreme, Community Canine, and Canine Good Citizen through the American Kennel Club. She is an incredible benefit to students and staff! No student is pressured to see her or pet her but she is here for them, if they need her. She absolutely LOVES coming to Hoosier Prairie and hanging out with her Pioneers!
Any student can request to meet with me or they can be referred by a teacher, administrator, or parent. I encourage you to reach out to me if you have concerns regarding your child. If you would like for me to meet with your child, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am here to help students achieve their personal, social, and academic goals, as well as provide support to parents and teachers.
