Mrs. Stephanie Ashley, Science Teacher
6th Grade Explorer Team
A little about Mrs. Ashley:
Hi!
My name is Stephanie Ashley and I teach 6th grade science. I am so excited to be at Honey Creek and work with 6th graders. I attended Honey Creek Middle School as part of the first 6th grade class at the school. Teaching is a second career for me. I majored in geology at Brigham Young University in Utah and followed up with a masters degree in hydrology from the Colorado School of Mines. I worked for nine years as an engineering consultant helping use and manage water resources in the western United States. I began teaching college classes in the evenings, both in person and online, and fell in love with teaching. I eventually went back to school for another degree in education. After moving my family back to Indiana in 2022, I started teaching high school and then transferred to middle school in 2023.
My goals for 6th grade are to make science fun and interesting and to help students learn to think scientifically and evaluate scientific information. I look forward to doing lots of experiments and projects meeting each student where they are so they can improve. I want everyone to learn that science “is for them,” even if they don’t want to become a scientist. It is all around us and affects the choices we make each day.
