Boys Basketball

By Addison Booe

On January 10, 2022 I interviewed Mr. Anthony Boehler, the boys basketball team head coach, and he said the season was going well. Coach Boehler also said he is very pleased with where the team is at and the team’s goal is to get better each week.

West played the Sullivan High School boys basketball team on senior night. Coach Boehler commented that he thought this game would be tough due to Sullivan being ranked top 10 in the state. He hoped  the team would gain some valuable life lessons that go along with the sport. The coach said he loves the group and has some leaders, but everybody brings something  different or unique to the team. Zeke Tanoos is the lead scorer for the team. They practice hard every day after school. The  team consists of the following roster:

Congratulations on the completed season!

Swim Season Highlights

By: Ella Loomis

The swim team broke records this season Varsity swim team members Gretchen Parsons, Haley Kane, Maddy Lindsey, and Eleanor Loomis broke another school record. The school record was made in 1983. The girls beat the school record for the 400 free relay by 2 seconds.  The Vikings did very well in the swim meet, even though they lost overall. The girls medley relay took second place. The boys’ swim coach is Ian Loomis.  The girls relay team have some remarks to say about the coach:

Maddy Lindsey: “Best coach I’ve ever had, he always says It’s not just about swimming it’s also about making yourself the best version of yourself that you can be.”

Hailey Kane “Coach Loomis is one of the absolute best coaches I have ever had. He of course has been there cheering me on and helping me improve my swimming all four years, but he has also been on the sidelines of my life outside of swimming. He’s encouraged me in my academics and my life and I could not be more grateful.

Gretchen Parsons: “Ian pushes me to be the best not only swimmer, but the best person I can be. I can tell he cares about all of us and he just kind of sits down and talks with us like we’re adults even though some of us aren’t yet.

Eleanor Loomis: “Our coach has done so much for us, he is there for us everyday. Whenever you need him, he is there. He is an amazing coach and man. We are so lucky to have him.”

The girls relay has now broken two records and they will keep going! Great job girls keep up the good work!

—————————————————————————————————On January 10th the West Vigo swim team had their varsity night while swimming against Owen Valley. Seniors were Hailey Kane, Gretchen Parsons, Sadie Herring, Tailar Daughty, Erin Murphy, J VanDenburg, and Max Myers. This meet was emotional for everyone. Not only because the swim team feels like a family, but also because this is the swim team’s first group Coach Loomis has coached for all four years of their high school.

On January 18th the west Vigo swim team had a meet against Greencastle, at Greencastle. Sadly, West Vigo didn’t win, the girls had 81 points. They were 18 off from tying the meet.
