The Hershey Legacy

                The Hershey Company began 125 years ago. Hershey’s legacy will continue for years to come.  The Hershey Company has worked to reduce its environmental footprint, enhance communities’ livelihood, and provide a brighter future for children worldwide. (Hershey Chocolate Company)  Milton Hershey was a successful confectioner and philanthropist and he was an innovator this took many years and hard work for Milton to become successful. His first candy organization was a failure it wasn’t until his third organization that his hard work finally paid off. Milton Snavely Hershey was born in Derry Township Pennsylvania on September 13th,1857.  Milton discovered a passion for candy-making and spent the next four years as an apprentice for master confectioner Joseph Royer in Lancaster. After four years of learning how to trade, Milton moved to Philadelphia to start his very first candy company. The company eventually ended in bankruptcy. Milton later learned how to make caramel with fresh milk. After a while, Milton returned to Lancaster, Pennsylvania where he sold homemade caramels from a pushcart. (Hershey Chocolate Company) He also invested in the Lancaster Caramel  Company founded in 1886. He later married Catherine Kitty Sweeney. They met at a candy shop in New York while he was delivering his caramel orders. (Hershey Chocolate Company) 

Fun facts 

• Milton borrowed 150 dollars from his aunt and opened his first candy shop in Philadelphia. 
• Hershey worked patiently in his shop for five years before becoming successful. 
• Hershey donates 30% of its profits. 
• Milton Hershey owned 60,000 acres of land in Cuba which was used for mills and sugar plantations from 1916 until 1946.

           Can you guys imagine this crazy weather we’ve been having this month? It’s like sunny and warm one day and the cold and rainy the next day. What’s up with that? It was sunny the other day and then the next day, I got soaked walking into school because it was pouring down rain. The meteorologist needs to decide on the weather so it’s not sunny one day and rainy and gloomy the next day!

           If you have plans to go out on a nice, sunny day you rely on the meteorologist to tell you if it’s going to be sunny.  You never know if you’re going to walk out of your house and it’s going to be nice out or if you’re going to need an umbrella with the way the weather has been this month. It’s been the craziest weather I’ve ever seen around here.

         If you plan on going outside, double check your weather channel so your plans don’t get ruined and you don’t have to hang your clothes out to dry.
