Hello DeVaney Dragon families!!! My name is Garien Woods, and I am super excited to be the new School Counselor at this amazing school!!!

This is a dream come true, and I couldn’t be more excited and enthused about getting to know each of you, and building a strong rapport! I truly believe in the power of positive relationships, having good communication, and the importance of building good lasting impacts and not just good impressions.

This is my 9th year in education. I have worked in both K-12 and Higher Education, all of which have been in Vigo County. The schools I have worked for: Sarah Scott Middle School, Honey Creek Middle School, Woodrow Wilson Middle School, and Indiana State University. I am very happy to finally arrive at the elementary school level!

I am originally from Lansing, MI, but was raised mostly in Gary, IN. My favorite activities are to create and play music, coach basketball/track, spend time with family, read a good book, and put smiles on faces.

I value the art of learning and sharing experiences for growth. I am a strong proponent of civic engagement, and building comprehensive, and safe communities. I also love to help students enjoy school by creating positive memories so they can be their greatest selves. I desire for students to feel safe when they come to school, and for parents to know their child/children are in good hands with responsible and caring personnel. I am excited to make this school year a great experience for everyone, and I will do my best to provide the best service to your family. I am eagerly counting down the days until the school year officially begins, and I look forward to meeting you at the Open House!
