Hello students and families!

My name is Madeline Howes, and I am a kindergarten teacher here at DeVaney. I am from Terre Haute, and I graduated from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College where I played volleyball. I am one of four sisters, which is why family holds such an important place in my heart!

This will be my fourth year teaching kindergarten, and I am so ready to begin another year as a Dragon! I am thrilled to have you as a part of our classroom this year, where I plan to bring many new ideas and activities. I hope to continue to create a structured, yet comfortable classroom environment where all will be encouraged to be the best student and friend they can be. I plan to create long-lasting, engaging learning experiences for my students everyday with the help of our wonderful K-Team.

Classroom Rules

  • Be Respectful
  • Be Responsible
  • Be Safe
  • Be Kind

Student behavior is managed using a positive system called clipping up.  All students begin the day on green.  As students display positive behavior, they move their clip up the chart.  The idea is to reward positive behavior.  If a student breaks a rule, he/she will have their clip moved down and could face various consequences.  However, students always have opportunities during the school day to bring their clip back up.
