NEAT EXPERIENCE

About NEAT

The NEAT (New & Emerging Automation Technology) Experience was unveiled in March of 2016 as a mobile system that traveled to a variety of places including schools and community events.  The system provides students with hands-on engaging activities that help introduce careers that are in high demand in our region.  During the approximately one hour visit students get to manufacture a product, change a tire, drive a nail, weld, and complete a variety of other activities.  In September of 2022 a new stationary expanded NEAT Experience opened at the Learning Lab.  This four hour experience allowed students to bring a sack lunch and experience a variety of activities from plumbing, crop identification, robotics, CNC machining, friction and brakes, plus many other activities in the 4 section expanded experience.  Retired teachers and industry professionals that help provide these opportunities are called NEAT Enthusiasts. The NEAT Experience can be customized to meet the needs of upper elementary, middle level, and high school/adult learners.

Mobile NEAT Experience

The NEAT Experience trailer can travel to a school.  A typical rotation is up to 30 students at a time engaged in activities for 45-60 minutes with 15 minutes in between groups.  A standard visit day can provide opportunities for approximately 120 students.  There is approximately a one hour set-up time at the beginning of the day and one hour needed for tear down.  The experience needs electricity and covering from the elements.  An adult chaperone, typically the teacher, stays with the students as they participate in the experience.

NEAT at the Learning Lab

The NEAT Experience at the Learning Lab is approximately a four hour experience and can have slight adjustments made to allow for bus transportation.  Schools are responsible for bringing sack lunches and providing general chaperones.  100 students can be engaged per visit.  Typically a minimum of 4 adults travel with 100 students. This experience provides many more engaging activities than the mobile experience.
