Practice Math Facts (Fact Drills on Fridays)

Epic (Reading at home online)

5th Grade Classroom Commitments/ Consequences

The 5th Grade Classroom Commitments go along with the Ouabache Code of Conduct that each student recites every day during the morning announcements.

As a member of the 5th-grade family, I will be responsible.

• I will turn in all of my assignments in a timely manner.
• I will not run in the halls and will always walk facing in the direction we are traveling.
• I will not touch or destroy other people’s things.
• I will not dawdle in the bathroom, hallways, classroom, or cafeteria. I will always stay quiet and respect others while they are in class learning.
• I will be quiet during all class transitions and while gathering my supplies in the hall.
• I will be responsible for my Chromebook and bring them to school each day, charged and ready for school-appropriate use.
• I will be responsible for my Chromebook and not damage the keys, or screen, and I will keep it in a case.

As a member of the 5th-grade family, I will respect myself and others. 

• I will treat others the way I want to be treated. I will RESPECT everyone and everything in the building.
• I will keep my hands, feet, and body to myself.
• I will always use good manners and say please and thank you.
• I will be respectful of others’ learning and work quietly.
• I will be respectful of other’s opinions.

As a 5th-grade family member, I will choose to learn.

• I will be a good listener.
• I will follow the directions given the first time.
• I will always be prepared for each subject.
• I will give every task 100% effort at all times.
• I will make swift and quiet classroom and subject transitions.
• I will stay attentive in class and participate at all times.
• I will know my target and be able to explain it to anyone who may ask for an explanation.

As a 5th-grade family member, I will allow the teacher to teach.

• I will not talk while the teacher is talking or teaching.
• I will not make noises to disrupt the class.
• I will stay in my seat during instructional time unless otherwise instructed.
• I will not play with scissors, glue, crayons, or other materials when the teacher gives instructions. 
• I will not touch materials that do not belong to me personally.

As a 5th-grade family member, I will do my personal best.

• I will stay focused on my work and always give my best effort.
• I will turn in my assignments on time.
• I will gather and complete assignments when I return from being absent and return them promptly.
• I will make good choices and demonstrate positive behavior throughout the day in all areas of the school building. 

Discipline

• Because each child is different and each situation is different, our goal is to treat each child with respect and dignity when enforcing a consequence. It is also our goal for our students to learn from his/her mistakes in the best way possible.

• We like to encourage positive behavior rather than focus on the negative. The positive consequences of modeling positive behaviors:

• Positive notes and phone calls home
• Good Character of the Month awards
• Extra free time with a friend to play a game or extra library time
• Have lunch with the teacher

• Unfortunately, there will be times when negative consequences will be given if positive behavior is not being exhibited. Consequences will follow a progressive scale. The consequences will increase if behavior is not improving. All students will be given a “clean slate” as we all have bad days.

1.  A verbal redirect to all students so no one is singled out.
2.  A private verbal warning will be issued, and the teacher and student will have a quick private conversation to discuss what the student needs to successfully transition to get back on task.
3.  The student will be moved to a different seat in the classroom so that they can focus on classroom learning.
4. The student will visit a different classroom for a short period of time to “ take a break” and refocus.
5. The student will eat lunch with the teacher so that we can discuss in private how we can work together to come up with a plan to be more successful. 
6. When a student is very disruptive in class and if they continue to be disrespectful, they will lose their recess. During the recess period, they will fill out a behavior reflection sheet to discuss with the classroom teacher before all students return to class.
7. A phone call home will be made if a student loses a privilege, is extremely disruptive or disrespectful to their peers, or if an office referral is made.
8. An office referral and phone call home will be made if a student is destructive to property, making inappropriate comments or gestures toward other adults or peers, and or they have a physical altercation.
