Vigo County School Corporation Families:

As we told you in August, the VCSC Facebook Page has been silent for several weeks. Although we have many wonderful stories we would like to share, we are experiencing difficulties with Facebook support for our page. We are currently unable to respond or post.

Thankfully, we seem to be getting a response from Facebook support and hope to return to sharing information on Facebook soon. Thank you for your patience as we work with technical support.

While we continue to work to resolve this issue, we will rely on sharing through our School Messenger texts, calls, and emails. This has always been and will continue to be where all vital information is shared. While Facebook is a great way to share good news and other information, it has never been our primary means of communication.

Vigo County School Corporation Families:

The VCSC Facebook Page has been silent for several weeks. Although we have many wonderful stories we would like to share, we are experiencing difficulties with Facebook support for our page. We are currently unable to respond or post.

While we continue to work to resolve this issue, we will rely on sharing through our School Messenger texts, calls, and emails. This has always been and will continue to be where all vital information is shared. While Facebook is a great way to share good news and other information, it has never been our primary means of communication. Our blog on the VCSC webpage and Twitter (@vcsc_teamvigo) will also be used.

We hope all have had a safe and relaxing summer and are ready to return to school tomorrow, August 11th, 2022. Welcome back to our first regular school year in three years! Look for us to return to active Facebook sharing very soon.

Per the Indiana Department of Health and in collaboration with the Vigo County Health Department, the Vigo County School Corporation will shift to a mask optional practice beginning Friday, February 18. The IDOH also no longer recommends contact tracing and quarantining in schools.

Per the CDC, if students or staff members are positive for COVID-19, regardless of their vaccination status or symptoms, they will be isolated at home for at least 5 days. Individuals who are in isolation may return to school on day 6, as long as they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of medication. Masks should then be worn for an additional 5 days.

As previously shared, our mask optional policy will be implemented in all buildings as well as for all extracurricular events hosted by our district. The U.S. Department of Transportation has mandated masks to be worn on buses through March 18, 2022. Students will be expected to wear masks on buses until the federal government changes the current requirement.

The Vigo County School Corporation has released a draft reopening plan for the 2021-22 school year, in advance of a hearing and expected school board vote on Monday, July 12. Click here to view the plan.

The district’s plan calls for access to in-person learning five days per week at all levels, with a virtual option available through Vigo Virtual Success Academy.

The draft plan continues practices developed over the past year, including maximizing distance between students in the classroom, access to hand sanitizer throughout all school buildings, and enhanced cleaning procedures. The district will continue to work closely with the Vigo County Health Department to assist with the health department’s contact tracing efforts.

Consistent with other districts that have released plans for next year, masks will not be required for vaccinated students and staff and will be recommended for those who have not received a vaccine. Due to a federal mandate, masks are required for all students and staff on buses, and the plan may change when the federal mandate expires. The district is not able to require proof of vaccination from students or staff.

“We encourage all who are eligible to get a vaccine, as it will help limit disruption to our school year and keep our community safe,” said Dr. Rob Haworth, superintendent of schools. “Our staff and older students have been eligible for the vaccine for several months, and this gives us confidence that the most vulnerable who wish to be protected have had an opportunity to be protected from COVID-19. As cases fell in our community and schools this spring, we saw the power of the vaccine in limiting the spread of COVID-19.”

The district will continue to work with local healthcare leaders and the COVID-19 Task Force to respond to changes in state and federal mandates and any developments with COVID-19 in Vigo County.
