The Life of a Bus Driver

By Frank Gilbert

My bus driver Tammy has a lot of rules to follow. When she stops on railroad tracks she has to open the door to hear for a train. It’s required for her to pull the parking brake every time she stops. She can’t take off until everybody is in a seat or she will be in trouble. When she picks up kids, she has to pull over a little to the opposite side of the road so cars will see the bus and know kids are on it. She has an elementary school route after the high school route but after school the elementary is before us. She always cleans every seat before letting us on.

Volleyball

By Darcee Garrett

West Vigo Volleyball started off really strong this season with some of the newcomers to the high school! Jaycee Elkins and Somer Ockerman started strong on varsity as freshmen. The volleyball team has already won some amazing games. Junior varsity is going strong with two games as a start off, They have awesome teamwork skills. Sadly some players have been hurt during the games. Reagan Taylor came in strong as a new libero on the junior varsity team. She’s been getting some awesome saves in the few games they’ve had.

The students of the school really show their support for our teams. Many have been coming to almost every game and have been showing their school pride.

Friday Night Football

By Jacob Lovell

The West Vigo Varsity Football team had its first game on Friday, August 19th against North Vermillion. Players got to wear their away jerseys for the first time. In the end, the score was 27 to 0, but our Viking defense stopped us from getting knocked out of the water completely with North Vermillion only scoring six points in the second half.

On Monday, August 22, the junior varsity team did a bit better against North Vermillion with a score of 20 to 6.

West Vigo played a game on August, 25 going against Park Heritage, winning 36-16. This was the first game that the JV got varsity play time. The drive there was long on the yellow bus, taking an hour to get there and back home to celebrate the big victory.

The West Vigo Football Team practices from 3:30-6:30 almost everyday going over game plays and the special teams like kick off and kick return for West Vigo Football. Varsity practices plays while JV watches. It is a team effort. Everyone supports one another. Aaron Clements is the new football coach this season. The first home varsity football game is this Friday, September 2nd at 7: 00 pm. Come out and support your Vikings!

MARCHING BAND’S BACK THIS SEPTEMBER

By Audrey Evitts

Give a warm welcome to the marching band once again! On September 2nd, 9th and 23rd, the marching band will march into the first football game(s) of this year! They will play songs from “The Little Shop of Horrors”, a 1986 musical film.  Their performances will be during halftime of the first three home football games. Mr. Christopher Gelb, the marching band director, stated that he wanted to play music based on the 1950s style. He also stated,  “The marching band has been working hard all summer learning music and drill for this show. We are looking forward to performing for the West Vigo community, students, and staff.” Many students perform in the marching band. Members practice each day during SRT and after school sometimes as well.

If you see a marching band member, congratulate them for all their hard work and determination. They’ve been working hard even before school started! The freshman, seniors, and the ones behind the scenes, deserve appreciation.

Girl’s soccer shows support for lost ISU Students

With a big game on the line against rival Northview, the Lady Vikes soccer team showed their support for Indiana State University (ISU) at their game on Wednesday, August 24, 2022. The girls wore blue ribbons to remember the three ISU students who lost their lives in a tragic accident. The girls won 4-0 that game, but wanted to show their support for ISU families, friends, faculty, and students. West Vigo showed their support for the families that lost the ones they loved dearly.
