WVHS Marching Band Performance

by: Corrine Houghton

Is the band ready? Yes, mark time mark and 1, 2, ready go! The West Vigo Marching Band and the Color Guard did fantastic at their parent performance on Thursday, October 14th! Even though it rained, it didn’t stop the band from performing in the Green Dome. Showing off that nothing is impossible with these talented students. The music was ringing and flags and rifles were swinging as the friends and parents cheered to see their child giving it all they got to show off their skills.

The marching band and the color guard were back and playing again after a limited year during 2020-2021 due to the COVID-19.  The band was not able to be on the field and get the experiences they would get in a regular year . Members are thankful to have performances  back again.  Even though it’s not perfect, they are glad it’s back and rolling, or should I say marching again! This year, with  hard work and dedication, the band and guard is making strides! As a current color guard member, I can’t wait for the future to see the band grow strong once again!

The Beverly Project

by: Addison Booe

An opportunity was presented for the Vikings to make a great impact on a child across the world. Upon speaking with Mrs. Easton, I learned the opportunity comes through World Vision, an organization that supports children in need around the world.  Mrs. Easton stated that she believes it’s a simple act that can have a big impact. I asked where she sees the project in five years? She responded, “I hope that we can maybe sponsor more kids, but also help more in our own community.” She also said that if more people were aware and able, they are always willing to help, especially when it comes to kids. Mrs. Easton stated she hopes West Vigo can continue helping Beverly until she is on her own and then pick more kids to assist.

Many students and staff are already working on ways to reach out and support Beverly. In Mr. Isles class, they are trying to get donations for Beverly. Students are donating money and  earning candy for their donations.

I also spoke with Mr. Easton. He had seen a presentation on children outside of our country choosing families. He said he saw families being chosen and thought of the West Vigo High School family. Mr.Easton said that he spoke to the student body about Beverly and they were all for it. He wants people involved who can connect to and relate to Beverly leading this cause. Mr. Easton, along with students and staff, welcome Beverly into the Viking family. Mr. Easton thinks student involvement is the key for success in this project.

Want some fresh, hot coffee? Not a big fan of hot coffee, then have some cold, ice coffee instead! Welcome to the DECA Coffee Shop serving daily in the comfortable library  from 7:00- 7:50 am!  Drinks cost $2 for iced and/or flavored coffee and $1 for regular, hot coffee!

How do they get coffee everyday you might wonder. Sadie Herring, DECA president, filled me in on how the DECA stop runs. Sadie stated that Bryce Stateler goes out to buy coffee on Sundays to prepare for the week. What a great guy, choosing what popular coffee, creamer, and flavorings are purchased to have ready to use and brew! Don’t be afraid to try out their coffee, it’s great! Personally, I like ice coffee more than hot coffee. If you haven’t already, please stop  by and say hi and get some delicious, refreshing coffee! For an extra treat, grab the Friday delicacy of a Square Donut!

Friday Night Football

by: Olivia Moore

On Friday October 15th, there was an exciting, yet rainy football game. The opening show was the marching band and color guard who did a fantastic job during the short time they had, they were also planning to perform at halftime, but sadly got rained out by the end of the first quarter. This was the last home football game of the season, and senior night for the seven players for class of 2022. The game was against Sullivan High School. By the middle of second quarter the rain had started coming down hard, which had completely muddied the teams uniforms, and soaked the students and parents in the stands of West Vigo and Sullivan High. Our team had some great plays but the rain had slowed them down. We did unfortunately lose, 7-28. The season ended 3-5. Great job this year seniors and team!

This amazing play was directed by Miss Alusta Tapy and Ms. Karen Crispin. The plot was a dumb witted Prince goes missing and his loyal assistant Sir Squdge goes looking for him and makes friends along the way. But this wasn’t any normal Happily Ever After. There was betrayal, romance, and humor mixed in. While Sir Squdge is trying to find Prince Charming, he investigates  many people while trying to find a suspect. You can tell that the cast worked hard and they did an amazing job! There were many that worked behind the scenes to make this play possible as well.  Great job everyone!
