Destination 1

If you’re looking for a place to visit this summer you should check out Indiana Dunes National Park. It is located in Porter, Indiana which is about three hours away from Terre Haute. They have so many fun things to do like camping, fishing, hiking, and even bird watching to name a few. There are over 350 species of birds at Indiana Dunes National Park such as Sandhill Cranes and Plovers. Indiana Dunes can be fun for your whole family to enjoy and the admission is only 15 dollars per person.

The first efforts to turn Indiana Dunes into a park go back to 1916, when locals wanted to preserve the area. The area was named a National Lakeshore in 1966. This designation gave the area the same protections as national parks.

Indiana Dunes could be an awesome getaway for the whole family. If you’re tired of the hustle and bustle of life and need a break, this is the place for you. I guarantee that you will love this place! Indiana Dunes has been ranked one of the best vacation places in Indiana so it is definitely worth checking out. I hope you get the chance to check out Indiana Dunes this summer for your family vacation destination.

Destination 2

Holiday World is a theme park in Southwestern Indiana in the town of Santa Claus. Holiday World is home to many roller coasters such as the Voyager, The Raven, and their most famous, The Thunderbird. For their reasonably priced admission of $59.99, the whole family can have a fun day in the sun riding rides and eating delicious food. Holiday World has seven restaurants to choose from such as Santa’s Merry Market, Plymouth Rock Cafe and Wildebeestro to name a few.

When I went to Holiday World I had the best time of my life. It was so great! I didn’t want to leave. They had so many fun rides. I didn’t know what ride to start with, but if I had to choose one I would have to say the Firecracker. The Firecracker is a ride that you sit in and it spins you around and around and it goes so fast. It feels like the whole world is moving in slow motion. If you want to feel that same feeling, this is the ride for you.

Holiday World really is a magical place for people of all ages. They have something everyone in your family can enjoy. The best part is that if you get there when they open, you can stay till they close so you and your family can do everything in the entire park in one day! That sounds like a pretty good deal to me. If you’re looking for a place for the whole family will enjoy I would definitely recommend going to Holiday World. You won’t regret it!

Beat the Heat

By Emma Barbour- Morley

In the peak of summer on those hot afternoons when the sweat begins to pour down your face and your clothes start to stick to your body, you probably want nothing more than to crawl back inside to the comfort of your AC. If this sounds like you, you’re probably wondering how to stay cool in the heat. While plopping yourself down in front of the fan is one way to lower your body temperature during a heatwave, there are a few other ways to feel less uncomfortable in the summer. A boiling hot day can be very uncomfortable, but it can also be dangerous. Hot days increase the risk of heatstroke, dehydration, and sunburn. All of which can lead to long-term health problems. In the long term, overheating can make completing day-to-day tasks difficult or even impossible. You may even find yourself experiencing headaches faintness, and fatigue if you can’t keep cool

Not only is staying cool important for your comfort and functionality, it’s also vital for your health. Try to drink water. At least one cup of water for every 15-20 minutes of activity a day to keep cool. Maintain a high level of physical fitness prior to the summer months, which will allow your body to handle the heat when it does come.  If possible, avoid being outside between 11 am and 3 pm when the sun is strongest. When you are inside, keep the sun from hitting the windows to keep your house from overheating. When you’re asleep at night, keep your house at the normal temperature you would have it at so your body doesn’t get extremely hot at night. When you’re doing a workout, always keep and maintain a basal body temperature. Even when you’re doing stuff around the house or when working outside in the heat it is important to drink plenty of water.

Extra Tips to Keep Cool in the Heat

  1. Keep your home cool and avoid the sun at peak times.
  2. Apply sunscreen with a high SPF (sun protection factor)
  3. Keep your curtains closed during the sun’s peak hours
  4. Stay hydrated when it is very hot outside.
  5. If you experience overheating, it is important to seek medical help.
  6. Signs include muscle cramps, dizziness, lightheadedness, vision changes, abdominal pain, and nausea.
