Professional Career

My first year of teaching was in Paris, IL teaching basic reading classes at Mayo Middle School.  The next few years of my career led me to teaching 2nd graders at Ben Franklin Elementary in Terre Haute.  Next, I moved to Consolidated Elementary in West Terre Haute.  There I would teach first, second, third, and fifth graders for a total of 18 years.  Then I made another career move to Lost Creek Elementary where I taught fifth grade for a year and third grade for many years.  This is my 31st year of teaching!!!  Teaching 6th graders is now my new passion.

As well as teaching grade school, I also am an adult education instructor for the Vigo County Adult Education Center at the Learning Lab.  I have held this position for over 10 years.  It is fulfilling to see my students complete the curriculum to earn a diploma.  Education is the key to success!

Educational Background

I am a Terre Haute native who attended Lost Creek Elementary, Woodrow Wilson, and Terre Haute North.  In 1992, I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a minor in reading from Indiana State University.  Later, I completed a Master’s in Reading Education from ISU in 1997.  In the early 2000s, I finished my sixth year in education from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Personal Life

My husband Micheal and I love to travel, attend live music events, and hang out with friends and family around campfires.  My daughter, Audrey, lives with her fiance, Tyler, and my beautiful grandchildren, Loren and Chandler.  My son, Jase, lives with his beautiful Lab named Clyde. My stepson, Stephen, still lives with us every other week.  My stepdaughter, Shelby, lives with her boyfriend, Brandon, and two precious dogs, Corki and Daisy.
