column_border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221;][vc_column_text]\n<h5>A Brief History of South Vigo High School<\/h5>\n<p>Terre Haute South Vigo High School opened its doors for the first time in the Fall of 1971.\u00a0 Originally, the school housed Grades 10-12.\u00a0 In 1993, Grade 9 was moved from Junior High School into High School, which meant all high school credits would be earned in the same building instead of being transferred and allowed for Grade 6 to be moved out of the elementary schools into the concept of middle schools.\u00a0 South Vigo is located at 7th and Davis Streets.\u00a0 It is the consolidation of Wiley High School (1912-1971) and Honey Creek High School (1926-1971).\u00a0 Honey Creek High School was the result of an earlier consolidation of Blackhawk High School (1919-1971), Pimento High School (1919-1961), Prairie Creek High School (1917-1961), and Prairieton High School (1924-1927).\u00a0 \u00a0It is interesting to note that Wiley High School was the second high school to open in Terre Haute, Indiana.<\/p>\n<h5>Notable Alumni<\/h5>\n<p>Terre Haute South Vigo High School provides a quality education for all of the students.\u00a0 However after graduation, a small number of our alumni became household names.\u00a0 Here is a short list of alumni that have obtained fame:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Armon Basset, basketball player<\/li>\n<li>Cam Cameron, football coach<\/li>\n<li>Jose Pablo Cantillo, actor<\/li>\n<li>Dylan Schneider, country singer<\/li>\n<li>Brian Evans, NBA forward<\/li>\n<li>Tony McGee, NFL tight end<\/li>\n<li>A. students and staff very seriously.\u00a0 THS is extremely proactive in its safety practices as students and staff participate in state mandated monthly drills.\u00a0 THS\u00a0 Safety Committee meets monthly to collaborate and discuss both internal and external safety trends and how to address new concerns.\u00a0 The committee studies and discusses current best practices and how to implement those into daily activities.\u00a0 Members of THS serve as members of the VCSC District Safety and Security Team providing assistance to all schools in the event of an emergency.\u00a0 In addition, staff serve as representatives to the Vigo County Safe Schools Committee.\u00a0 THS has two certified Indiana School Safety Specialist on staff that have completed the required state training.\u00a0 Safety education is important to THS as monthly safety newsletters on a variety of safety topics are shared with staff.\u00a0 THS uses Safety Protection Officers every day to not only create a safe environment but to form positive, lasting relationships with students.\u00a0 Lastly, THS Staff serve on the Emergency Response Team which responds to student and staff emergencies.\u00a0 All members are CPR and First Aid certified and are able to provide immediate assistance and care.\u00a0 THS will always prioritize student and staff safety and will continue to always improve in documented best safety practices.[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=&#8221;No Line&#8221;
