SUMMER SCHOOL

 

High school summer classes will focus on core courses that were offered during the 2023 – 2024 school year. The VCSC wants to provide an opportunity for students to make-up compulsory credits in an in-person setting. Summer school will be offered at Terre Haute South Vigo High School. Summer school will take place Monday through Friday between 8:10 a.m.– 11:55 a.m. from Monday, June 3 through Friday, June 28. There will be no school on June 19, in observance of the Juneteenth holiday.
Daily breakfast and lunch will be provided, as well as school bus transportation. We currently do not have bus transportation details but they will be given to you once we receive them. 
The high school courses offered are as follows:
English (9-1, 9-2, 10-1, 10-2, 11-1, 11-2, 12-1, 12-2)
Math (Algebra I-1, Algebra I-2, Algebra II-1, Algebra II-2, Geometry I-1, Geometry I-2)
US Government Economics World History & Civilizations (1, 2) U.S. History (1, 2)
Biology (1, 2) Earth Space Science (1, 2) Chemistry (1, 2)
Health and Wellness Education,  PE (1, 2), and Community Service
 
Please click on the link below to fill out the Google Form for Summer School. Once received, your child’s counselor will determine the classes they have failed and will need to take. 

GRADING PERIODS

 

The end of the First Nine Weeks First Semester of school is Thursday, October 12th, 2023.  The grades will be posted on Friday, October 20th, 2023.

The end of the Second Nine Weeks First Semester is Tuesday, December 19th, 2023.  The grades will be posted on Friday, January 5th, 2024.

The end of the First Nine Weeks Second Semester of school is Friday, March 8th, 2024.  The grades will be posted on Friday, March 15th, 2024.

The end of the Second Nine Weeks Second Semester is Wednesday, May 22nd, 2024.  The grades will be posted on Monday, May 27th, 2024.

SCHOOL HOURS

 

Our beginning time and the tardy bell rings at 8:10 am and school is dismissed at 3:15 pm.

For a two hour delay, our beginning time and the tardy bell rings at 10:10 am and school is dismissed at 3:15 pm.

REPORTING A STUDENT’S ABSENCE

If you have a student who is absent or needing to go to an appointment, please call 812-462-4252 and press 1 for the Attendance Office. After pressing the 1, be sure to press 1 again if your student needs a pass to leave school for any reason.   Please give as much advance notice as possible if your student needs a pass out to leave.  Press 2 for all other attendance issues, sickness, questions, etc .    Thank you!

REPORTING A CHANGE OF ADDRESS

 

If you have a change of address, please bring an utility bill with your new address to South’s Dean’s Office.  This can not be done on the website.  Thank you!

CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations to the following students who received a Gold Rating at State Solo & Ensemble: Haley Overton on Oboe, Colby Ellison on French Horn, Alaina Warren on Trumpet, Nolan Phillips on Bari Sax, and a Brass Quintet of Alaina Warren, Paxton Otto, Colby Ellison, Clara Nixon, and Madyson Williams. A big congratulations goes to Braden Mekeel on Clarinet who received a Gold Rating with Distinction for his solo. 
Congratulations to John Mann and Caelen Van Den Top who both received Gold ratings on their violin solos at State Solo and Ensemble contest over the weekend.  John and Calen, along with Devan Tickle on bass, also received a Gold rating for their String Trio.  
Congratulations to the Science Bowl Team competed in the state competition in Indianapolis on Saturday. They represented South well with their knowledge of science subjects ranging from Biology to Chemistry, Earth Science to Physics, and even Math. A team of five consisting of Raghav Bakshi, Parth Dashpande, Brady Exoo, Christine Liu, and Justin Zheng placed fifth overall. Also competing was a team consisting of Arjun Bhatia, Jeffrey Chen, Vatsal Mannepali and Vaishant Mannepali who finished sixth in the state. 
Congratulations to the Jazz Band on a Gold Rating at ISSMA Jazz Friday night! Nolan Phillips was awarded an Outstanding Soloist Award for his bari sax solo on External Combustion!
Congratulations to the South Concert Orchestra for receiving a Gold Rating on their jazz performance at the ISSMA Jazz Festival.  Caelen Van Den Top and Noah Price also received Outstanding Soloist Awards!

Congratulations to the THS Latin students who attended the Indiana Junior Classical League state convention and brought home an impressive array of individual and chapter awards! In addition to the competitions, students attended workshops led by Latin teachers and Classics professors, attended a Roman banquet in Roman attire, elected state officers, and completed a service project packing aid baskets for cancer survivors. THS senior Jayne McCormack, serving as the 2023-2024 IJCL Historian, and Becki Bush, THS Latin teacher and IJCL Graphic Arts Chair, assisted in planning and running the convention.
