We know that reading and understanding student schedules has been more challenging this year due to the number of changes we have made. All middle schools in our corporation have moved to a common schedule, and we believe the changes we have put in place will provide meaningful benefits and opportunities for our students.
\nSeveral parents have reached out with questions about which WIN classes their students are scheduled to attend. To help clarify this information, I have created a quick list of the WIN classes being offered this year, along with the teachers leading each class.
\nAs always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions about student schedules or WIN classes. We are looking forward to welcoming our students back into the building in just a few days!<\/p>\n

\nSarah Scott Middle School WIN Classes<\/p>\n

WIN (What I Need) is a dedicated time during the school day that provides students with opportunities to explore interests, develop new skills, receive academic support, and participate in engaging learning experiences. WIN classes may change throughout the school year.<\/p>\n

WIN I- This class is a state-required\u00a0math intervention<\/strong>\u00a0for students who did not meet the expected performance level on the ILEARN Checkpoints during the previous school year. Students who pass the ILEARN Checkpoints during the current school year may be removed from the intervention class.<\/p>\n

WIN E- This class is an\u00a0enrichment\u00a0opportunity for our students. \u00a0These classes are set up on 9 week rotations and the students will rotate through several classes during the school year.<\/p>\n

The following list are WIN E classes offered at Sarah Scott this year:\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

Mrs. Walters \u2014 Personal Relations- 1st Period
\nStudents will develop important interpersonal and communication skills. Topics may include building healthy relationships, working with others, showing respect, resolving conflicts, and making responsible decisions.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Walters \u2014 Cooking- 5th-6th Period
\nStudents will learn basic cooking and kitchen skills while exploring food preparation, kitchen safety, nutrition, and teamwork. Activities may include preparing simple recipes and learning how to follow directions in the kitchen.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Sampley \u2014 Computer Science
\nStudents will explore computer science concepts through engaging, hands-on activities. Topics may include coding, problem-solving, digital skills, computational thinking, and learning how technology works.<\/p>\n

Mr. Giles \u2014 Fitness
\nStudents will participate in physical activities designed to improve fitness, encourage healthy habits, and promote teamwork. Activities may focus on movement, strength, endurance, flexibility, and overall wellness.<\/p>\n

Mr. Marrs \u2014 Fitness

Mrs. Perry \u2014 Robotics- 5th-6th Period
\nStudents will explore robotics through hands-on activities involving building, programming, problem-solving, and teamwork. Students will use creativity and critical-thinking skills to complete challenges and learn how robots operate.<\/p>\n

Mr. Sons \u2014 Current Issues
\nStudents will explore important events and topics happening in their school, community, country, and around the world. Students will practice discussing different perspectives, thinking critically, and forming informed opinions.<\/p>\n

Mrs. O\u2019Dell \u2014 Power Hour
\nPower Hour provides students with dedicated time to complete assignments, stay organized, receive academic support, and strengthen skills in areas where they may need additional help. Students will be encouraged to use their time productively and take responsibility for their learning.<\/p>\n

Mr. Fuqua \u2014 Life Skills
\nStudents will develop practical skills that can be used at school, at home, and in everyday life. Topics may include organization, communication, decision-making, problem-solving, responsibility, and other skills that support independence.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Bedrava \u2014 Table Top
\nStudents will participate in tabletop games and activities that promote teamwork, communication, strategic thinking, problem-solving, and positive social interaction. Students will practice working cooperatively while having fun.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Loudermilk \u2014 Literature Circles
\nStudents will read and discuss literature in small groups. Through shared reading and meaningful conversations, students will strengthen their reading comprehension, communication, critical-thinking, and collaboration skills.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Raccines \u2014 Morphology
\nStudents will study word parts, including prefixes, suffixes, and root words, to better understand the meaning of unfamiliar words. This class will help students strengthen vocabulary, reading comprehension, spelling, and overall language skills.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Mahalek \u2014 Cursive Writing
\nStudents will learn and practice cursive handwriting. The class will focus on proper letter formation, connecting letters, improving handwriting fluency, and developing confidence in reading and writing cursive.<\/p>\n

Ms. Parsons \u2014 Invention Convention
\nStudents will use creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to identify problems and design possible solutions. Students may research, plan, create, test, and improve an original invention or innovative idea.<\/p>\n

Ms. Parsons \u2014 Gardening- 4th quarter classes only
\nStudents will learn about plants, gardening, and the natural environment through hands-on activities. Topics may include planting, caring for plants, understanding plant growth, and learning about the importance of gardening and sustainability.<\/p>\n

Mx. Rhodes \u2014 Guitar
\nStudents will explore the fundamentals of playing the guitar. Activities may include learning basic chords, rhythm, proper technique, and simple songs while developing musical skills and confidence.<\/p>\n

Mr. Smodilla \u2014 News
\nStudents will explore current events and learn how news is researched, created, and shared. Activities may include discussing important events, evaluating sources, developing communication skills, and possibly creating school-related news content.<\/p>\n

Mr. Kelley \u2014 Technology
\nStudents will build practical technology skills through hands-on activities.
