Hello Sarah Scott Families, 

 

Welcome to the new school year! 

 

We are so excited to see you tomorrow at Open House beginning at 5:30. This is for families to meet our amazing teachers and staff, visit classes and their locker, see what resources are available, and more. The evening will conclude at 7:00. Please enter at Door #19.

 

Make sure you have filled out required forms on Skyward. Each child needs to be registered every school year by completing the required forms and information.  If you do not know your login, please contact the school office at 812-462-4381.

 

The first day of school is Tuesday, Aug. 12 and we need your student here by 7:55. If you are eating breakfast, it begins at 7:30. Drop off is at Door #19 in the morning. Students are NOT to cross the parking lot. School dismisses at 3:15. Do NOT park in the main parking lot for picking up. Please have a conversation with your student of how they will be going home, which street they will be picked up, etc. Safety and security are very important. 

 

Sports begin after school on Tuesday; Cross Country, volleyball, and tennis.You must have a physical on file. There will be more information at Open House if you have any questions. 

 

We have an excellent website with many resources and information that will be of help for you.  You can visit the district website to find Sarah Scott or go directly to https://web.vigoschools.org/sarah-scott/. Parent Square is our main form of communication. We also have a Facebook page.

One more day Scotties! YOU got this! Tomorrow, dress in your Summer/Hawaiian clothes to send you off into summer.  

 

Just a reminder, tomorrow is an early dismissal at 2:30.

 

Congratulations to Team Amistad for having the most house points this school year! We had a fun house party on Friday. 

 

7th graders, make sure you sign up for Head of House if you are interested. 

 

Grades will be posted on Tuesday in your portal on skyward.

Hello Sarah Scott Families, 

 

The summer countdown is on and we are excited to celebrate the amazing accomplishments this school year has brought to our Scotties. So let’s have some Spirit Days for the Queen of School Spirit, Mrs. Smith! 

 

Tuesday will be Scottie Spirit Day, Wednesday-Pajama Day, Thursday-Sandals with Socks, Friday-House Day, and Monday-Summer/Hawaiian Day.  

 

On Wednesday, our Academic and Sports Awards will take place at 6:00. Doors will open at 5:30. 

 

On Thursday, our 8th grade graduation will be celebrated at 6:00. Doors will open at 5:30. 

 

Rescheduled to this Friday, we will celebrate our last house meeting! This is going to be a fun time for our Scottie Family with races, games, and earning house points! Wear your house shirts on Friday! 

 

Students will be helping build a “reading garden” filled with hammocks for a quant area for our literature classes to read thanks to a grant funded by the Vigo County Education Foundation. Also, all students will have a book going home this week to read from the VCEF from their “book tasting” stations. Thank you for always supporting the VCSC students and staff. 

 

Parents, a survey link will be sent about this past school year for your input. Thank you for your support.

 

Monday, June 2, will be the last day of school and an early dismissal at 2:30.

Hello Sarah Scott Families, 

 

All library books are due tomorrow. Please return all books to Mr. Smodilla. 

 

On Tuesday, we celebrate our Top 10 students in each class at our banquet. Congratulations on your hard work and dedication to your education. 

 

On Wednesday, our band and orchestra will perform at 2:40. This will be livestreamed on our Youtube channel @Scottie LiveStream. Parents of band/orchestra students are invited to attend. 

 

On Thursday, we celebrate our character award recipient for honesty,  Tyler Lowe with the Mayor. Congratulations to Hunter Scroggins and Desirae Cox for representing their classes as well. 

 

Congratulations to our Scotties who won Azzip Pizza and Texas Roadhouse for their Read 180 and Aleks interventions. What great bucket prizes!!! Enjoy your trips this week.

Parents, there is a dangerous challenge on Tiktok where students are intentionally trying to set their chromebooks on fire by pencil lead, staples or metal into the charging ports causing fires. We are asking for your support in speaking with your child about the very real dangers of this behavior, as well as reinforcing the importance of treating school-issued devices with care. Thank you.

Hello Sarah Scott Families, 

 

Happy Mother’s Day! Enjoy the sun and relax. Thanks for all you do! Thank you to all families who contributed snacks for the staff this week during Teacher Appreciation Week. It was much appreciated. 

 

Tomorrow morning is our food distribution from 9-10am. Please share with friends and families. 

 

Students who are trying out for Scottie Dance Crew will have tryouts Tuesday, Thursday and Friday until 5:00. 

 

Monday night we will honor our Eddie Conners Award recipients; Mariah Sandifer and Zion Turner. Sportsmanship, loyalty, respect, character and personal development are all qualities these student athletes exemplify! Congratulations on this prestigious award.

 

On Wednesday, our choir will perform at 2:40. This will be livestreamed on our Youtube channel @Scottie LiveStream. Parents of choir students are invited to attend.

Hello Sarah Scott Families, 

 

Happy Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week! If you would like to bring in snacks, drinks, or baked goods for the staff, they would greatly appreciate your kindness. 

 

It’s county week which means it’s spirit week. On Monday, dress up like the 90’s. On Tuesday, dress like BBQ dad and Soccer Mom. On Wednesday, it’s Scottie Spirit Day! On Thursday, teachers dress as students and students dress like teachers. On Friday, dress in your Hawaiian/Beach Day.

 

Monday night our tennis team will travel to Otter Creek. 

 

On Tuesday, our Top 10 8th graders will have a special day in Indianapolis. 

 

On Wednesday, our track team will compete in the County Meet at South High School. Good luck student athletes! 

 

This week, we will also celebrate Mrs. Mahalek as our Education Foundation Excellence in Education Award winner. Congratulations Mrs. Mahalek. 

 

On Wednesday, Principal Mr. Herrin will visit our 8th grade students as they transition to South High School.

 

Don’t forget to purchase a water bottle and flavor packet for $1.00. Proceeds will go toward Field Day. 

 

Our Talent Show will be live streamed on Friday. Parents of participants are invited to attend on Friday at 2:30. 

 

On Friday, our tennis team will play in County at South High School! Good luck!

Hello Sarah Scott Families, 

 

This week is the state ILEARN testing for 6th grade students only. It is extremely important for students to be on time, have a charged chromebook, and be well rested. Our testing days are Tuesday and Wednesday this week.  

 

Please check your portfolio on Skyward as 4th grading period midterms were posted. Students will have a data day on Thursday.

 

Our swim team broke 6 school records last week for the school at County! Woo Hoo!

 

Monday night our 6th grade students will travel to Woodrow Wilson and 7th and 8th grade track will be at a home match. 

 

On Tuesday, tennis will be at home vs. West. They will begin at 5:00. 

 

If you are interested in trying out for the cheer team, tryouts are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday after school until 5:15. Please see Coach Martin if you have any questions. 

 

On Wednesday, we will have our first “Water Wednesdays”. Students can purchase a water bottle and flavor packet for $1.00. Proceeds will go toward Field Day. 

 

On Wednesday, our tech/robotics team will travel to The Learning Lab for Mania in the Middle. Our 6th grade track team will compete at home while our 7th and 8th grade track team will travel to West Vigo. 

 

On Thursday, our tennis team will have a home match vs Honey Creek and our 7th and 8th grade track team will have a match vs. St. Patrick.  

 

On Friday, there will be a Pay-to-Play for $2.00. Music, games, and fun will be during the last hour of the day. 

 

On Saturday, Academic teams will compete at the Academic Super Bowl at SSMS.  We will host 18 schools for the competition! Good luck Scotties!

This week is the state ILEARN testing. It is extremely important for students to be on time, have a charged chromebook, and be well rested. We want all Scotties to be giving their BEST effort during these times. Our testing days are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week.  

 

Monday night our 7th and 8th grade track team will travel to Marshall Jr High for an away meet. 

 

On Tuesday, tennis will be at home vs. Wilson. They will begin at 5:00. 

 

On Wednesday, our swimmers will have their county meet and also recognize the 8th grade swimmers at the Aquatic Center. Our 7th and 8th grade track team will travel for an away meet at Riverton Parke Jr-Sr High School. 

 

Math Club will meet on Wednesday after school until 4:30 and the Korean Club will meet on Thursday until 4:15. 

 

On Thursday, our tennis team will have a home match vs St. Patrick and our 7th and 8th grade track team will travel to Sullivan for their meet. 

 

This week is county week for Swimming and also Bus Driver Appreciation Week. On Monday, wear your favorite jersey, character, or hat day. 

On Tuesday, wear something from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, or 90’s for Time travel. 

On Wednesday, be wacky! Crazy hair, mismatched socks, or wacky clothes. 

On Thursday, be patriotic. Wear red, white, and blue 

On Friday, wear yellow for our bus drivers.

Hello Sarah Scott Families, 

 

This week is the state ILEARN testing. It is extremely important for students to be on time, have a charged chromebook, and be well rested. We want all Scotties to be giving their BEST effort during these times. 

 

Tomorrow morning from 9-10 am will be our food distribution for the community. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and staple items will be available. Please share.

 

Monday night our 7th and 8th grade track team will travel to South High School for a Future Braves Meet. 

 

On Tuesday, there will be a FREE sports physical clinic after school 3:30-5:30. This physical will be for the 25-26 school year. An email has been sent from Mr. Burress.

 

Tennis and Track pictures will be Tuesday after school. Tennis will travel to Honey Creek for their matches. 

 

On Wednesday, we will host a track meet vs. South Vermillion for all grades. 

 

Math Club will meet on Wednesday after school until 4:30 and the Korean Club will meet on Thursday until 4:15. 

 

On Thursday, students can pay $2 for Pay to Play. Proceeds will go to help pay for our amazing Field Day.
