Welcome! I am Shari Elder, a kindergarten teacher here at Rio Grande Elementary. I have been teaching here since 2010 and I have loved every minute of it! Prior to my teaching career, I had the opportunity to work at Hamilton Center with adult mentally ill individuals. I enjoyed working with the clients and co-workers, but found my calling when I worked briefly at an elementary school in Nashville, IN. It took me a few (6 years) to gain the courage to re-enter school to get my teaching degree, but I did it! I have lived in North Terre Haute since I was a small child. I am proud to be an Otter Creek Otter and North Patriot! I graduated from St. Mary-of-the-Woods with a Bachelor’s in Psychology and another in Elementary Education.
My husband, David, is also a teacher at Woodrow Wilson Middle School. We have two amazing children, Tristan and Taelyn. We also have Cesar, our Great Dane. I enjoy spending my extra time traveling with my family. We spend many weekends traveling for baseball and volleyball. My favorite hobbies are reading and knitting. My love for reading came after I graduated from high school. I hope to encourage children to develop a love for reading at a younger age than I found it. It is truly an amazing escape!
