Your student will need to bring the following items to kindergarten:
(6) Items Needed
1 clipboard
1 plastic school box not bigger than 8×5 inches
1 Backpack
2 Boxes of tissues
Headphones with a cord
** No wheeled backpacks please, they do not fit into the lockers**
Our science center will need caterpillars. Our favorites are the monarch (black and yellow, not fuzzy). They live on milkweed plants often found near the edge of fields on the country roads.
At this time it looks like we will be eating a late lunch so we will have a snack in the mornings. Please send in individually wrapped healthy snacks, no candy please (special treats only). We will put the snacks together and share. If each child brings enough for the class each family should only need to send in one time a month.

Lunch Box
Please make sure to pack items in your child’s lunch that your child can open and use independently. This will help keep the adults from touching your child’s food. Thank you for helping us keep everyone’s food safe. Please put your child’s name on the outside of the lunchbox.
Backpack
Please make sure that your child’s name is on their backpack.
Please make sure that your child brings their backpack to school every day.
Chromebooks:
Kindergarten students will receive a Chromebook to use at home and at school. Chromebooks will need to be fully charged and in your child’s backpack for school each day. We are unable to charge Chromebooks at school due to available outlets. More information will be sent home soon.
ClassDojo:
We will use the ClassDojo App this year. An email was sent to invite you to join “Mrs. Shore’s Kindergarten Class 2023 – 2024”. This is a great way for us to communicate quickly with one another.
Be sure to check the ClassDojo App daily for any updates.

Daily Behavior Information:
A “Target” behavior report will be filled out and will be sent home daily. This is a bull’s eye concept. The goal is to be on target (bull’s eye) as often as possible. A “☺” in the circle will indicate the student was on target and had a fantastic day. When the classroom rules are not followed, an “X” will be made in the circle along with a brief description of the behavior. At times, recess time might be shortened due to poor choices. Your child and I will use this time to talk with one another about the choices they made and how we can improve.
A weekly Target sheet will be inside your child’s yellow take home folder each day. Please sign the Target sheet over the weekend and return to school on Monday. Students will be rewarded with a trip to the classroom treasure box on Mondays for having a great week of making good choices. Everyone will get a new weekly Target sheet every Monday
Yellow Take Home Folder
Your child will have a yellow take home folder this year. This yellow take home folder will serve as a daily communication folder and it will have two pockets; a “Bring Back to School” pocket and a “Go Home Stay Home Papers” pocket.
“Bring Back to School” pocket:
- This will be for their weekly Target sheet that needs to be returned to school each day.
- Any homework
- Any important notes from school or any important notes from home
“Go Home Stay Home Papers” pocket:
- This will be for all papers that we have completed at school.
Please remove all papers from the “Go Home Stay Home Papers” pocket each day.
Please check your child’s yellow take home folder each day.
Please make sure that your child brings their Yellow Take Home Folder to school every day.

Classroom Daily Snacks
Please send in individually wrapped healthy snacks (pretzels, crackers, fruit snacks, cheese sticks, fruit, etc.). We will put the snacks together and share. If each child brings enough for the class each family should only need to send in one time a month. Please notify me of any food allergies so that I can share with parents for snack donations.
Change of Plans
We will need a note from home or a phone call to school if your child is doing something different from the regular dismissal routine. This is extremely important so that your child gets home safely from school. If we do not receive a note or a phone call, your child will continue with their regular dismissal routine. If a change of plans occurs during the day, Please Call the Office 812.462.4449.
Birthday Celebrations
We will be celebrating birthdays in Kindergarten. If you would like to send in a special treat to celebrate, we will celebrate each month’s birthdays at the end of the month. If your child has a summer birthday, we could do a half year celebration, or we can celebrate at the end of the school year. Please do not send birthday party invitations to hand out at school. This is not a school related function, and in order to keep feelings from being hurt please handle this matter outside of school time.
Wellness:
Most importantly, please keep your child at home if your child is not feeling well. Your child will need to be fever free, diarrhea free, vomit free for at least 24 hours before they may come back to school. In order to keep everyone safe at home and school, we must follow this guideline.
