Greetings from the School Counselor!

My name is Sarah Pesavento and I have been happily employed within the Vigo County School Corporation for the past 19 years.  This is my ninth year at Riley Elementary and I’m so thankful to be here!  Our learning community radiates positive energy and a great respect for all individuals.  How lucky we are to be learning together under such encouraging guidance.  It is my hope that this school year will be filled with positive and successful experiences for all students.

I attended the University of Evansville and received my Bachelor’s Degree in Commercial Art. This creative field served me well for many, many years and I thoroughly enjoyed that season.  However, seasons change and I wished to be with those that were planting the seeds of learning in my two children, Lily and Max.  As my career path changed and I yearned to work with students, I accepted an educational assistant position.  As my passion for working with students grew, I longed to become a bigger advocate for the well-being of our youth.  Therefore, I returned to the classroom and earned my Master’s Degree in Education so that I could serve our young population as a school counselor.  Another passion of mine is baking goodies, and I have even entertained the idea of opening up a bakery!  Baking and gardening bring me joy, and I am often found in my kitchen or outside.  I have two children – Lily and Max.  Lily works for the Hamilton County Humane Society as their Community Engagement Manager.  She’s doing her best to rescue all animals!  Max is employed with Ace Sign & Awning.  He’s thoroughly enjoying his graphic artist position.  He also enjoys time with his bandmates!

My counseling services include individual sessions, small group services, and classroom guidance.  My goal is to promote personal and social growth so that all students can rise to their fullest academic potential.  I am excited about our new social/emotional learning program – QuaverReady.  We will be honing our skills in self and social awareness, self-management, relationships, and decision making.  In addition to these program topics, I will address bully prevention, child safety, tolerance, making safe/healthy choices, and career opportunities.

I believe that we all have special gifts and talents.  Overtly celebrating unique traits will lead to positive growth.  I am looking forward to working with the students and staff at Riley Elementary School and consider it an honor to serve.
