Mrs. Mangin’s Minutes of the Week

*The 5th grade has a fundraising event occurring on Saturday, February 21 from 8:30 – 10:00 am. We will be hosting a Pancake Breakfast at Longhorn Steakhouse. Proceeds from the event will be used to help pay for the 5th grade end of the year field trip.
*For your calendar: STEM Family Night on Wednesday, February 25 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. This will be a fun, free event for the whole family!! Teachers and staff have many fun activities planned for our evening of learning and fun! We could use your help in collecting some items to make our evening a success. The following items are needed: empty toilet paper rolls and empty paper towel rolls. If you are able to save any of these items, please send them in with your child by 2/17.
*Upcoming PTO events: February 9 – Azzip Pizza Night (Hwy 41 location) and February 28 – Sweetheart Dance 6:00 8:00 pm. Information regarding both of these events came home on February 2.
*If you are interested in volunteering with PTO, the following opportunities are available: Valentine’s Dance, Lucky Grams, Rally for Riley Race, Teacher Appreciation, and Class Picnic Day. Let me know if you need more information!
Next week we will be studying:
Math: We will review multiplying with mixed numbers and have a test on Tuesday over multiplying fractions and mixed numbers. After the test, we will move on to dividing with fractions.
Science: We will finish up our unit on interacting Earth systems.
Language Arts: Main Idea & Details, Compare & Contrast, Making Inferences
Story: “What’s the Buzz? Keeping Bees in Flight”
Genre: Informational Text
Grammar: Review Week
Vocabulary: The vocabulary test will be on Friday. We will review the definitions each day. The students need to know the definitions of the following words: nectar, offspring, foraging, artificial, and intricate.
