Mrs. Mangin’s Minutes of the Week

September 12, 2025

*We had a great time on our field trip to the fairgrounds! The students were fantastic and interacted nicely with the presenters at each learning station.

*Be on the lookout for an email from SignUp Genius.  Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held from October 20 through October 24 and you will be able to select a day and time that is convenient for you using SignUp Genius.

*It’s not too late to sign up for PTO membership, just let me know if you need another form. They would like to have those forms returned by September 19.  The class with the most participation will win a pizza party!

*The 5th grade Grandparents/Special Person Day will be on October 3 from 8:30 am – 9:30 am.

*If you are interested in volunteering with PTO, the following opportunities are available:  Gibson Cross Country parking, Grandparents Day, Fall Decorations, Fall Festival, Candle Fundraiser, and Holiday Riley Store.  Let me know if you need more information!

Next week we will be studying:

Math:   We will have a test over division on Wednesday. After the test, we will learn how to find the volume of a rectangular prism.

Social Studies:  Students will review the housing, clothing, food sources, and celebrations for each of the Native American regions discussed in Chapter 1.  The Totem Pole  project is to be completed at home and due back to school by Wednesday, September 17.  The students need to represent four people/events and write a paragraph about each one.  Information detailing this project came home on Wednesday, August 27.

Language Arts:

    Story:  Hatchet

    Genre:  Adventure Tale

Grammar:   Prepositions and Prepositional Phrases (quiz will be given on Thursday)

Vocabulary:   The vocabulary test will be on Friday.  We will review the definitions each day.  The students need to know the definitions of the following words:  rasping, glancing, tendrils, painstaking, and tensed.

Home > Beth Mangin’s Website > About Mrs. Mangin

Hello! Thank you for visiting my website. My name is Beth Mangin and I teach 5th grade at Riley Elementary.  I have been in various classrooms in the Vigo County School system for the last 20 years. I received my Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana State University and my teaching licensure through St. Mary-of-the-Woods. I feel fortunate to be able to work with such wonderful students and staff at Riley Elementary.

I have lived in Terre Haute for about 35 years. I am married and have two kids who make me proud to be their mom.  My son graduated from ISU and is employed in Illinois.  He is married and lives on the north side of Terre Haute.  My daughter graduated from Indiana University.  She works and lives in Bloomington.  I also have one very special grandson! In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and being outside.

I look forward to seeing and working with my students each day!
