Meadows Pledge

Today is a new day at Meadows Elementary School.

I will respect myself and others.

I will make smart choices that will help me become a better person.

Our History

We Celebrate a Long Rich History at Meadows Elementary

Meadows Elementary opened up in 1957.  It was  built by Miller and Drydahl Contractors. In 1969, the west wing was added. Another addition created a beautiful new gymnasium and stage area.

Principals include:  Ione McConkie, Audrey Snyder, Sharon Pitts, Alice Fuller, Jan Hawkins, Jan Hawkins, Susan Newton, Karen McDonald, and Cassandra Cook.

Despite being one of the oldest buildings in the district, our school is a beautiful showcase of long-standing school pride as we have journeyed through the historical past to the technology-rich present. Being a smaller, neighborhood school has always provided unique characteristics to our school.  In our hallways, you will see many portraits of former staff and student populations.

Once a Meadowlark–always a Meadowlark!

Whether it be in-person or remote learning, our students and teachers are focused on the best teaching and learning possible.

Parent Involvement

The Meadows Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization actively meets each month whether it be in person or via Zoom.  The PTO is committed to supporting the teaching and learning environment through teacher financial support for classroom projects and needs.  They further invest in school-wide learning opportunities such as our outdoor classroom, garden, convocations, and more.

Instructional Focus

Meadows Elementary teachers and staff follow the Vigo County School Corporation curriculum pacing guides in all subjects.  Encore teachers provide enrichment through art, music, physical education, and library/technology.

The needs of all students are met through our Special Needs team, English-Language Learning support, counseling, and smaller teacher-student ratio.

Safety

Mr. Dale Loudermilk serves as a School Police Officer.  All guests are required to buzz in at the front door and sign in with Officer Long.  In addition, we have crossing guards at Brown and Wabash Avenues to ensure that our walkers safely cross busy streets.  Our school has a dedicated 5th grade student safety patrol team who provide guidance to our younger students in the hallways at the beginning and end of school hours.
