Reading\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We use the Reading Milestones curriculum and your student works at their own pace on reading at their level. They take spelling tests at the end of every lesson.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Math<\/span><\/p>\n

Mrs. Schoffstall combines online learning with direct instruction, dry erase boards, manipulatives, and worksheets to learn new skills in basic facts, geometry, graphing, coordinate planes, and pre-algebra. We reach for real world story problems as our highest level of achievement.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Science<\/span><\/p>\n

We study space, cells, rocks, chemistry, the laws of motion, and the geology and ecosystems of Earth together as a class using online and direct instruction.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Social Studies<\/span><\/p>\n

We study Social-Emotional Learning, the holocaust, segregation, maps, and discovery of the New World during online and direct instruction through books, videos, worksheets, and activities.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Life Skills<\/span><\/p>\n

From chores in the classroom to Recycling Buddies Club, we work on cleaning tasks students can use at home and in future job opportunities. We also cook, talk about healthy eating, and kitchen safety.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Literature<\/span><\/p>\n

We read books! Sometimes they are for fun books and sometimes they are assigned books. The books we read often have been made into a motion picture, so we watch the videos after completing the book. We find all the things they changed from book to screen.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Work Stations<\/span><\/p>\n

We have drawers set up with individualized review and practice worksheets and vocational tasks. Students get their folder and task from the drawer, work on it, and turn in the work. Work includes money math, telling time, dot-to-dots, reading digraphs, sequencing, matching, answering who, what, where, when, questions, and handwriting practice in print or cursive all catered to the needs of your student.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Chores<\/span><\/p>\n

Students take care of their classroom daily by doing rotating chores. They vacuum, wash dishes, dry dishes, spray and wipe desks, tables, chairs, doorknobs, take out the trash, and do the laundry. We wash our P.E. clothes once a month, too.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Fun Day Friday\/CBI<\/span><\/p>\n

Fridays are when we go on CBI (community based instruction), cook, go to the school library, and watch book or holiday related movies. During CBI we may make purchases for cooking for the month, go to the public library, or visit restaurants. If it is a restaurant day, students should bring their own money from home to purchase what they want. Our CBI money is limited and usually groceries take up most of it! Students not going to the restaurant will cook at school. They may also do deep cleaning (the fridge, ew! Or dusting cabinets!), or play social skills games. Also, if they want to make their own purchase at Walmart on grocery day with their own money, they may, with parent approval. We are now limited to 2 students per adult, so students rotate their CBI days.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Everyday<\/span><\/p>\n

We have a snack every day. This happens at about 10:20 in the morning. Snack donations are always welcome! Our lunch time for the 2021-2022 school year is 12:10.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We go to P.E. and choir on a rotating schedule. Yes, even on Fun Day Friday. Our P.E. and choir is integrated with general ed peers. Aides go with the students, but they participate right alongside everyone else.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
